Trim Class Outline

* Evaluate and Analyze the horse to be trimmed
o Evaluate the stance and movement of the horse
o Evaluate imbalances of the feet and body.
o Analyze placement of the feet at standing rest.
o Analyze causes of imbalanced cadence.
o Determine course of action for trim
* Horse Etiquette and Safe Handling
o Instruct safe horse handling techniques for the handler
o Instruct safe horse handling techniques for the trimmer
* Fundamentals of the trim
o Explain how the trim affects the horse
o Explain how the horse affects the trim
o Explain how to determine what trim is needed for that horse at that point in time
o Explain the difference between Flat and Level

o Review the more common hoof ailments and their conceptions and misconceptions.

o How to check for Flat and Level and make corrections for each as needed
o How to check for correct Pastern Alignment
o How to trim the feet to balance the shoulders and the body
o How to perform trim touch-ups to complete the trim
* Post trim evaluation
o Evaluate the new stance of the horse
o Evaluate the new movement and cadence of the horse
o How to determine where fine-tune touch-ups can be done to modify foot placement

Clinician - Keith Seeley: a Certified Journeyman II Farrier.
Keith has been specializing in lameness cases for the past 15 years. He has written articles for several local and regional publications and has been seen on both regional and national television stations helping to educate horse owners. His experience as a hoof care specialist has been featured in several national magazines including Fortune and Anvil.
